Stars Of Super Late Model Racing Head To Lincoln IL Speedway Thursday
$5,000 To Win Summer National Makeup To Bring Top Stars
The top stars of dirt Late Model racing will be heading to the midwest this week as plenty of big shows are lined up. It all starts on Thursday, August 25 at Lincoln IL Speedway with a $5,000 to win event, which is a makeup for the Summer Nationals rainout on July 3. The Graue Chevrolet Showdown for Late Models will be accompanied by UMP Modifieds for $1,000 to win plus the UMP B-Mods.
Leading the list of favorites to claim the Lincoln trophy would be this year’s dominant driver on the Summer Nationals tour, Bobby Pierce. The young driver from Oakwood, IL has been so good all summer long and was especially strong at the central Illinois events, claiming the Herald & Review 100 Summer Nationals race at Macon Speedway and the Lucas Oil Dirt Late Model event at the same track.
There to face off, much like this year’s Hell Tour, will be the runner up in this summer’s standings, Bloomington, IL’s Jason Feger. Feger finished with three wins during the summer stretch. He also had a win at the KERBYSTRONG 100 at Macon Speedway, among others.
Another favorite on Thursday night will be El Paso, IL driver Ryan Unzicker. The Super Late Model star is coming off of two wins on this year’s tour and also had an outstanding run at the Illinois State Fair ARCA race on Sunday. Unzicker finished third in the SuperChevyStores.com 100 presented by Jive.
Mowequa, IL driver Shannon Babb is expected to be no slouch on Thursday, either. Babb has had an onslaught of bad luck this summer, but it could definitely change this coming weekend.
Other drivers expected on track include but are not limited to MARS point leader Tony Jackson, Kevin Weaver, Matt Taylor, Gordy Gundaker, Rich Bell, Daryn Klein, Bob Gardner, McKay Wenger, Justin Asplin, Jesse Stovall, Brian Diveley, Chuck Mitchell, Greg Kimmons, and many more.
The Summit National Modified makeup will be held as well, paying $1,000 to the winner. Fans can expect the best around to be on hand claiming crucial late season UMP national points. NASCAR personality Kenny Wallace will face off against drivers like Brian Lynn, Ray Bollinger, Curt Rhodes, Allen Weisser, Mike Harrison, Austin Lynn, Donovan Lodge, Kelly Kovski, Shawn Vaughn, Alan Crowder, and more.
Rounding out the slate of classes will be the UMP B-Mods in a rare appearance at the track. The B-Mod division will be making only their second visit this season. Butch Weisser claimed the win earlier this season over Tom Riech, Travis Hendrickson, Hunter Diebel, and Tim Riech.
Pits will open this Thursday at 3:00, grandstands at 4:00, hotlaps are scheduled for 6:00, the important qualifying session will be at 6:30, and racing is set to take the green at 7:00. General admission tickets for the grandstands will be $25, while kids 11 and under are just $5.
