Big Ten Street Stocks To Race Friday At Lincoln Speedway

Fans To Enjoy Dollar Dogs & $2 Beer Specials

(Lincoln, IL) This Friday night April 30, Lincoln Speedway, located at the Logan County Fairgrounds in Lincoln, IL will be hosting a five-division race program featuring the season opener for the Midwest Big Ten Street Stock Series. Fans in attendance will also enjoy great eats and adult beverages on Dollar Dog and $2 Beer night.

The Midwest Big Ten Street Stock Series event will be the first of the 2021 season for the tour. After losing the 2020 season due to the pandemic, the series was brought back this year with a ten-race schedule for Street Stocks in addition to schedules for Pro Late Models and Super Late Models. Big Ten Street Stock features pay at least $500 to win, based on at least 16 cars.

The popular series will be entering its seventh season of racing at tracks like Lincoln Speedway, Macon Speedway, Jacksonville Speedway, and Taylorville Speedway. Previous champions include Terry Reed and Jeremy Nichols. Reed, of Cerro Gordo, IL, claimed championships in 2014, 2015, and 2019, while Nichols, of Lovington, IL, has claimed championships in 2016, 2017, and 2018.

The DIRTcar Pro Late Models will be back this Friday night after having an outstanding turnout two weeks ago. That event, which was also a Big Ten race, saw Jose Parga claim the victory over teammate Dakota Ewing. Jake Little, Roben Huffman, and Braden Johnson completed the top five at the April 16th event.

Over the first two events of the season, 27 different DIRTcar Modified competitors have raced at Lincoln Speedway. Ray Bollinger claimed the win at the April 9th opener while fellow standout driver, Allen Weisser, won on April 16th. Tommy Sheppard, Jr., Brandon Roberts, and Brandon Bollinger have been knocking on the door of their first wins of the season and will be ones to watch Friday night.

The Simplot DII Midgets had an exciting show two weeks ago, as Springfield, IL driver, Chase McDermand took the Simplot Front Row Challenge to start at the back of the feature. McDermand made it all the way through the field to finish second, just missing the $300 bonus money. Peoria, IL driver Mark McMahill won the race, carrying over momentum from his championship 2020 season. The Simplot Front Row Challenge bonus money will be $400 on Friday night.

The DIRTcar Hornets have had two outstanding races at Lincoln Speedway, going into week three. Kenny Butterfield, of Kingston Mines, IL, and Erik Vanapeldoorn, of Clinton, IL, are tied for the championship lead, each claiming one feature win. Jay Mariuzza, Allan Harris, and Mike Foster are others that have been just outside of victory lane looking in.

In addition to five exciting racing divisions, fans will be treated to $1 hot dogs and $2 beers, while supplies last. The Taft Concession Stand and El Zarape Taco Truck will also be on hand.

Pits will open Friday at 4:00, grandstands at 5:00, hotlaps at 6:00, and racing at 7:00. Grandstand admission is $15, while kids 11 and under are free. Tickets will be available at the gate on raceday.

Sprint Cars & Big Ten Pro Late Models To Headline Friday At Lincoln Speedway

(Lincoln, IL) After an outstanding season opener last Friday night, Lincoln Speedway is set to do it once again this Friday, April 16 as five divisions are ready to go. Headlining the evening will be the 305 Sprint Cars and Midwest Big Ten Pro Late Models.

The Winged 305 Sprint Cars will be racing for the first of three appearances this season at the semi banked dirt ¼-mile oval. In the three appearances last season, the drivers put on exciting shows with Weldon, IL’s Garrett Duff, Lincoln, IL’s Max Pozsgai, and Greenwood, IN’s Bradley Galedrige claiming the wins. Jeff Wilke, Tyler Duff, Ben Wagoner, and Jeff Tuxhorn are others who had strong runs one year ago.

The DIRTcar Pro Late Models will be making their first appearance in 2021 at the track. The opening race will be a special one for the talented drivers, as it’s also the opening night for the Midwest Big Ten Pro Late Model Series. The event will pay $600 to win and $100 to start in addition to DIRTcar national points, track points, and Big 10 points. At the end of the 10 race Big 10 schedule, special trophies and a point fund are distributed to the top finishers.

The DIRTcar Modifieds are back this week for their second night of action. Opening night, last Friday, saw over 20 cars take the green flag in a star studded field. Ray Bollinger, from Kewanee, IL, leads the track standings after claiming last week’s win. Rick Conoyer, Tommy Sheppard, Jr., Brandon Roberts, and Chris Morefield are top five point contenders after one night. Perennial favorites, Austin and Brian Lynn, had bad luck on opening night and will be looking to make up a lot of ground Friday.

The DII Midgets are back for another season of racing at the track with a new title sponsor, Simplot Grower Solutions. Last year saw a new champion atop the points, Mark McMahill from Peoria, IL. Teenage driver, Will Armitage, was second in points, while yearly favorite, Andy Baugh, Tyler Roth, and Kelli Harter took top five positions in points. Friday’s race will be the season opener for the Simplot DII Midget class.

Much like the Modifieds, the Hornets already have one race under their belts and it was a thriller. The battle at the front last week was worth the price of admission. Kingston Mines, IL driver, Kenneth Butterfield leads the points going into week #2, while Erik Vanepeldoorn is second. Vanapeldoorn had a strong run but ended the night with a disastrous barrel roll following the checkered flag. Josh Star, Jay Mariuzza, and Michael McKay round out the top five in points.

Pit gates open Friday at 4:00 PM, grandstands at 5:00, hotlaps begin at 6:00, and racing will take the green at 7:00. Grandstand admission is $15 for adults and free for kids 11 and under.

Shirley Comes Out On Top At Lincoln Speedway Season Opener

(Lincoln, IL) Lincoln Speedway has officially fired up the 2021 racing season with the DIRTcar Nationals this past Friday, April 9 at the Logan County Fairgrounds in Lincoln, IL. At the end of the night, four drivers celebrated DIRTcar National victories with special trophies, bragging rights, and extra prize money.

The main attraction of the night was the $3,000 to win feature event for the DIRTcar Super Late Models. Benton, KY driver, Tanner English, bested a field of highly talented drivers in qualifying with a 12.549. English went on to win heat #1, while Central Illinois favorite, Brian Shirley won heat two to complete the front row starters for the feature event.

When the green dropped on the 30-lap feature event, it was Chatham, IL’s Shirley racing into the lead with English, Ryan Unzicker, Jake Timm, and Kolby Vandebergh in tow. While the top three remained unchanged from the early going, fans were watching Bobby Pierce come from the final starting spot to work his way into top five contention. At the checkered, it was Shirley claiming the dominant win, lapping over half the field. English took second, while Unzicker, Pierce, and Timm completed the top five.

Michael Long set overall fast time in the DIRTcar Modified class with Long, Ray Bollinger, and Allen Weisser taking the three heat race wins. In the $1,500 to win feature event, Bollinger took the early advantage over the 20+ car field with Long following closely. Disaster struck with 13 laps in, however, as Long’s car lost power on the exit of turn two. As the #18 car slowed abruptly, Kenny Wallace and Jeff Leka had no where to go and slammed into the ailing car, eliminating all three from action. Down the stretch, Bollinger held a comfortable lead and was never challenged seriously, claiming yet another win at the Lincoln track. Rick Conoyer took second, while Tommy Sheppard and Brandon Roberts took third and fourth. Chris Morefield had an impressive run, picking up 15 spots to take fifth.

Tommy Gaither led all DIRTcar Pro Mod drivers in qualifying with a 15.574, however, all eyes were on the #15c of Kevin Crowder when the cars hit the track for race action. Crowder took the win in heat #2 after Kyle Helmick took the first heat win. The 20-lap feature saw the Argenta, IL driver, Crowder, race into the early lead and go on to the impressive victory. Following him across the stripe were Helmick, Ryan Hamilton, Billy Knebel, and James Hileman.

Arguably, the most exciting feature of the night came in the Hornet class. The drivers put on a great show, especially at the front of the field as the top three or four competitors swapped positions while slicing their way through traffic. In the end, it was Kingston Mines, IL’s Kenny Butterfield taking the trophy. Erik Vanapeldoorn finished the race in second but rolled violently in turn two following the event. Fortunately, he walked away unscathed. Josh Starr, who made the trip from Iowa, Jay Mariuzza, and Michael McKay completed the top five.

The strong turnout of fans saw an entertaining evening of action with some of the top drivers in DIRTcar racing. In fact, many stayed until the last checkered flag fell a few minutes after 10:00 and they got their monies worth with the show the Hornets put on.

The track will be right back in action this coming Friday, April 16 with a full five division show featuring the first of three visits from the 305 Sprint Cars. The night will also feature the first race of the year for the Big Ten Pro Late Models and Simplot DII Midgets. The DIRTcar Modifieds and Hornets will also be in action.

Thursday Practice Off; Friday Season Opener Looking Great

Practice for tonight has been called off. We hung on as long as we could because we know a number of drivers wanted to shake down their rides. Unfortunately, with last night’s rain and another small cell hitting in the afternoon, conditions are a little too wet for today.

That said, it looks great for tomorrow’s season opener! Mostly sunny and 73 degrees with a 7:00 race time temp of 67!

The DIRTcar Super Late Models will be racing along with the Modifieds, Pro Mods, and Hornets. The DIRTcar Nationals is a make-up event from the rained Fall Nationals in October but is a totally fresh show with practice/qualifying, heats, and features.
