Summer Nationals Sunday Features Graue Chevrolet Showdown at Lincoln Speedway

(Lincoln, IL) This coming Sunday, August 16, the stars of the DIRTcar Summer Nationals make their annual voyage to Lincoln Speedway, located at the Logan County Fairgrounds, in Lincoln, IL. Joining the Super Late Models for the Graue Chevrolet Showdown will be the Summit Modified Nationals and 305 Sprint Cars.

Leading the DIRTcar Summer National Late Model competitors into town is Brian Shirley. The Chatham, IL driver has claimed the last two Summer National point championships and is leading this year’s points by over 100. As of Thursday morning, Shirley has won five events on this year’s tour, including four of those in the last five events. Frank Heckanast, Jr., Jason Feger, Bob Gardner, and Bobby Pierce round out the top five in the current standings.  Winners include Shirley (5), Tyler Erb (2), Bobby Pierce (2), Gordy Gundaker (1), Kent Robinson (1), Jason Feger (1), and Dennis Erb, Jr. (1).

Nick Hoffman leads the Summit Modified National standings by 74 over Mike McKinney. Will Krup, Hunt Gossum, and Zeke McKenzie are top five competitors as of Tuesday afternoon. Hoffman has won four events on this year’s tour, including the last three. Other winners include Mike McKinney (3), Mike Harrison (2), and Will Krup (2).

Joining the two Summer National classes will be the winged 305 Sprint Cars. It will be the third visit for the division at the track this year. Weldon, IL’s Garrett Duff won the first event this year, while Lincoln, IL’s Max Pozsgai won the second one. The class has put on two fast paced shows at the ¼-mile dirt track.

Pit gates will open Sunday at 3:00, grandstands at 4:00, pill draw will end at 5:30, hotlaps begin at 6:00, and racing is slated for 7:00. Grandstand admission is $30, while kids 11 and under are $5. Tickets and pit passes will be available at the track on raceday.

The Summer National tour is in the midst of a busy week with events scheduled from Tuesday all the way through Sunday’s event at Lincoln Speedway. The tour then has Monday off to prepare for their final five events.

For Lincoln Speedway, officials will work quickly to turn everything around after Sunday’s event to prepare for the POWRi Lucas Oil National Midgets and Micros as they return to action on Friday, August 21 for Illinois Speedweek.
